NOTE:The course is divided into 3 Modules with 4/5/4 SECTIONS
each (click on the button "Learning Modules" from the
menu). Each Section begins with an Orientation or Purpose, followed by a set of
Objectives/Outcomes. The Purpose is the WHY of the Section and the Objectives
are the WHAT of the Section. Following the Orientation and Objectives, a series
of Learning Activities are designated for each Section. Learning Activities
include: (1) specific textbook reading references, (2) a series of videos, (3)
designated "Experiences" and hyper linked Web Sites. Each MODULE is
concluded with a Self-Test, then a "real" test.
Your grade for this course will be based on your
successful completion of the following 3 THINGS: Note: Please read this entire page!
- THING ONE---
9 EXPERIENCES.You are required to complete a course total
of nine (9) of thirteen (13) Experiences that are available. There are 3 Modules, so that is 3
Experiences per Module---JUST THREE. After "doing" the
Experience, complete just the Reaction field(s) at the end of
the Experience and click the "Submit" button, I will receive it! (Note: Be
sure to put your name on the Experience if you forget, I am not prepared to re-check a submission). The purpose of
the Experiences is to allow you to "feel" the concepts and principles
of psychology by doing them. A phenomenological approach to learning! The
Experiences accompany each separate Section of each Module of the course
and their completion and submission will be part of determining your
grade.
-
- Just do 3
Experiences per Module, they are worth 1-2 points each, so that is 6
possible points for the Module. Doing more than the required 3 per Module or 9 total
Experiences for the course will not enhance your
grade---just do a course total of nine, again, that is three per
Module. Each Experience completed is worth 1-2 points . Your REACTIONS
will be graded as 1-2 points depending on how well formulated and
articulate they are. So, again, that is 6 max points per Module or 18
total max points for the Experiences by the end of the course.
- Special
Note: The data sheets/forms are not active---to use
them, copy/paste to a MS Word doc or "print screen," or in some
case, just work from the screen (use scrap/note paper for data). When you have completed the Experience, complete the
Reaction field(s) provided, then click "Submit"---be sure to add
your name and e-address!
- THING TWO---12
INTERNET SITE REVIEWS: I have included hyper links to other PSYC related sites (in
each Section) that you might find of interest/relevance. Visit a site and
send me 8 to 15 lines of information describing/assessing ( A
REVIEW) your visit to the site. A minimum of a course total of
twelve (12) sites must be REVIEWED as part of determining your
grade---THAT IS 4 SITE
REVIEWS PER MODULE (There are 3 Modules x 4 = 12).
- Just do 4
Site Reviews per Module, they are worth 1-2 points each, so that is 8
possible points for the Module (24 points for the course) . Doing more than the required 4 per Module or 12 total
Site-Reviews will not enhance your
grade---just do a course total of 12, again, that is 4 per Module. Each
Site Reviews completed is worth 1-2
points Your REVIEWS will be graded as 1-2 points depending on how
well formulated and articulate they are. So, again, that is 8 max points
per Module or 24 total max points for the Site-reviews by the
end of the course.
- SUBMIT THE SITE REVIEWS AS A GROUP (MS Word doc., attached to
an e-mail---preferred), or just include in an e-mail and send them to: psyc151@lorainccc.edu Please note the exact e-address, it is psyc151@lorainccc.edu If you have
the correct e-address, I received your submission!!!!!! If I have
more than one-Section of this course, you may be asked to add an "a"
"b" or "c" after the 151 in the e-address---See the
Orientation in Angel for the specifics.
- I will send a Progress Chart on the Thursday following a Module
Test (about every 2 weeks) noting all your course submissions to that
point.
- All site-reviews for the Module must be in by the end date for
the Module--See the Calendar posted
in Angel. Note: Sometimes sites are "dead", it is the nature
of a rapidly changing Web-environment. So if you encounter a “dead-site,” Google
a topically related substitute of your own initiative.
- Note: At this time I do not use Angel Drop Boxes.
- Include the URL for
each site visited and reviewed. Be sure to specifically label all
submissions with your name, course, the Module and Section number. Please
re-read the prior sentence. A sample site-review will be posted in Angel,
under the tab "Assignments."
- THING
THREE---5 TESTS.
- On the first
Friday of the Term, a 5-Question PRACTICE TEST will be available in
Angel--up to 5 points are possible. The Practice Test is over this
Syllabus. All course-tests will operate in the same manner as this
Practice Test.
-
- There
will be a 35 item multiple choice test at the end of each Module (See
Angel Calendar)---there are 3 Modules. Tests will be taken in Angel.
They will be posted under the "Assignments" tab.
-
- Test Directions: Within
a 3 day window, you will have 10 MINUTES to complete the Practice
Test, 70 MINUTES to take the Module-TESTs and 150 MINUTES for the
Final Exam ( in other words, that is 2 minutes per question,
whatever the test). The clock MINUTES starts when you access the
TEST and the clock runs continuously. You may stop and start at will
during the test, but the clock is running. You may only
access/submit your test once. The TEST will be available from 8:00
AM Friday morning until Monday at 8:00 AM---after 8:00 AM
Monday the test is LATE (see Late Policy under the menu item
"Policies." After you submit your test, your score will be
available under the "REPORT" tab in Angel. After all
students have completed the test (8:00 AM Monday) your completed test
(corrects/incorrects) will be available in Angel on Tuesday AM for a 24
hour time frame.
-
- A 75
item COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM will conclude the course. All Test
Dates are to be posted in the Angel Calendar.
-
- Note: If you are recognized by the Office of
Special Needs as requiring additional time, there is no penalty for
the appropriate extension of time beyond the stated test-minutes.
-
- MAKE-UP
TEST: Given that there is a 3-day window in which to access a test,
I cannot imagine a scenario whereby a student should
"miss-a-test"---online computer access is world-wide! However,
given that none of us can predict the future, except Ms. Nora-- clairvoyant,
a circumstance may arise which makes taking a particular test/exam
exceptionally difficult. Should such an impossible situation
"happen," a student is required to notify me (mckinley@lorainccc.edu)
within 48 hours of the missed Test and provide documentation of the “why.”
FAX said documentation to: 440.366.4128. If a
make-up test (singular) is granted, it will be posted in Angel on Tuesday
of Final Exam Week. Only 1-make-up test) will be permitted! A make-up test/exam will include
an Objective part and an Essay part. NO “Make-Up” of the Final Exam is
permitted.
-
- In order to
receive grades/test results, you must have completed the Honor Code and
the FERPA Forms---Click on the POLICIES button from the Menu.
Your grade
will be determined by the Practice Test (5 points), three 35 item TESTS
(105 points), plus the COMPREHENSIVE 75 item FINAL EXAM (75 points), 9
EXPERIENCES (18 possible points), 12 INTERNET SITE REVIEWS (24 possibe points)
and a few "extra points" where available.
The Course Grading Scale is: A = 93%-100%, B = 84%-92%, C
= 69%-83%, D = 60%-68%
NOTE: Final course
grades: Extra points (if present)
are added to an individual point total to determine the final grade. Additionally, poorly/carelessly wrought e-mails,
e.g., spelling, grammar are to be taken into account for grading
purposes.
NOTE: Why not the
Classic Absolute Scale: Most "students" who have "grown
up" with the CLASSIC Absolute Scale, i.e., 90-100, 80-89, etc. seem
to minimize/overlook the fact that the Internet instruction is a different
breed of "animal" vs. the traditional land-based form of instruction.
Almost always, the CLASSIC Absolute Scale is used in a closed book,
no-notes and "timed" (50-minute to two hours) testing
environment. Commonly, as with this course, IT tests allow for
open book and notes to be used over an extended time period, i.e., 2 minutes
per question, whereas most test-question are time to 45 seconds to 1 minutes
per question..
PROGRESS CHART: I will
summarize your progress (/GRADE/points) with a Progress Chart (MSWord doc) at
the end of each Module sent to your Angel e-mail.
You will be identified by the last 4-digits of your student ID.
